Child Help Foundation (CHF), a pan-India non-profit child-centric organization, inaugurated the project ‘Arogya Sadan’ in the month of August. In a city, as expensive as Mumbai, the harsh reality is that most underprivileged families simply cannot afford the financial burden of travel and accommodation. This is where Arogya Sadan comes in and extends a compassionate hand to underprivileged families from remote regions of India to stay and travel to and fro from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute to their designated residential premises.
Arogya Sadan not only provides lodging premises for patients in Mumbai but also for patients, their family members and their donors. The lodging also offers services like unwavering support staff 24/7, doctor’s prescribed diet, tuition classes as well as recreational activities, completely living up to the moniker of ‘Swastha se Shiksha Tak”. The project also extends post-transplant care for the patients, along with their donors, because they deserve nothing less than the best.
Child Help Foundation is a force of compassion and change. They work proactively to secure the good health and well-being of society, especially children. From organizing health camps, women’s health and hygiene, to cancer treatment for the underprivileged; their commitment knows no bounds. Hospital partners approach CHF on a regular basis to track down updates on underprivileged children in dire need of emergency medical treatment. Thalassemia, a relatively unknown disease in India, is an inherited disease. It is caused by mutations in the DNA of cells that make hemoglobin. Left untreated, thalassemia major can lead to heart failure and liver problems.
Aarav Kumar, the first patient of Arogya Sadan successfully underwent BMT treatment to fight life-threatening thalassemia, He has been recently discharged from Kokilaben Hospital and currently resides in Arogya Sadan to complete his observation period.
Speaking about Arogya Sadan, Mr. Shaji Varghese, Chief Executive Officer of Child Help Foundation says “Thalassemia is a disease that makes one dependent on regular blood transfusions. Through Arogya Sadan, we hope to give these patients a new lease on life. Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute is providing them with state-of-the-art treatment and CHF is ensuring that they don’t miss out on their schooling by giving them educational lessons, living up to our motto of ‘Swastha se Shiksha Tak.”
Through its exemplary works in the past, Child Help Foundation has won many awards including the ‘Most Impactful NGO Award’ in 2023. Child Help Foundation’s Good Health and Well-Being program has touched the lives of 1,34,050 people till September 2023 and the total beneficiaries across all programs is 44,81,098.
