Shree Mahavir Jain Hospital in Thane Delivered Dialysis During the COVID – 19 Outbreak

Twelve months after the emergence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), it continues to devastate health and livelihoods worldwide. While COVID-19 has ebbed in some regions, it is surging in others. Within the kidney community, everyone continues to seek better understanding of how to protect the patients at greatest risk, those who depend on dialysis. As part of its pandemic planning, Shree Mahavir Jain Hospital, a multi‐specialty patient-centric institution located in Thane developed plan for re-allocating dialysis resources in the event of shortages to make certain that everyone who needed dialysis received it.

While the world awaits a cure for COVID-19, the patient and their families have had good reason to be worried ever since the onset of the pandemic. Dialysis patients around the world have been rather anxious and nervous, as they need to step out at least twice a week for the dialysis procedure, which must continue at any cost. In order to ensure the finest Medicare for dialysis patients, Shree Mahavir Jain Hospital has taken extra steps to protect the patients during this pandemic. Spread over 20,000 sq ft, six stories, the 98 – bed hospital offers accessible dialysis facilities to patients. The center has installed a total of 12 dialysis machines, out of which 11 machines are placed in the dialysis unit and one is installed in ICU.

The hospital delivered dialysis during the outbreak while treating more than 100 patients from Kalsekar & TMC Hospital. Since dialysis services were unavailable because of these hospitals being converted into the covid center, Shree Mahavir Jain Hospital came forward to offer dialysis at their premises to these patients.

“Innovation and competition in this sector will ultimately drive quality, operational excellence, comfort, and help avoid the death of dialysis patients. At Shree Mahavir Jain Hospital we have done more than 3400 dialysis procedures till date from December 2019. The need of the hour is to increase the availability of quality dialysis in an infection-free environment. This will make kidney disease patients live a life close to normal,” says Dr. Sunil Katkade, Chief Medical Director & Advisor and Sr. Anaesthesiologist & Intensivist.

Shree Mahavir Jain Hospital provides dialysis facilities with an impeccable track record, dedicated & experienced Nephrologists, and well trained, expert technicians. The dialysis treatment is given to the patients 24X7. The hospital focuses on bringing quality healthcare and is highly appreciated by the Patients and their Relatives.
