Celebrating Gandhi Hospital’s Pediatric Surgeons for Thalassemia Care on World Thalassemia Day

On World Thalassemia Day, the Thalassemia Sickle Cell Society (TSCS) extended their gratitude to Gandhi Hospital for their unwavering support and care of thalassemia children. The Department of Paediatric Surgery, headed by Prof Dr. K. Nagarjuna, has been crucial in offering exceptional splenectomy services to these young patients.

Thalassemia children often require splenectomy procedures due to an increased demand for blood transfusions. Despite the numerous health complications and challenges associated with these patients, the Department of Paediatric Surgery has successfully conducted 40 splenectomies in the past three years, with Prof Dr. K. Nagarjuna personally performing 70 of these operations.

TSCS President Mr. Chandrakant Agarwal and CEO & Secretary Dr. Suman Jain expressed their appreciation to the dedicated pediatric surgeons at Gandhi Hospital. They also applauded the hospital’s “Children Play Den,” a unique post-operative space designed to help thalassemia children recover in a nurturing and engaging environment.

In recognition of World Thalassemia Day, TSCS calls upon the government of Telangana to acknowledge the exceptional healthcare services provided by the Department of Paediatric Surgery at Gandhi Hospital and their commitment to ensuring safe splenectomy procedures for thalassemia children.
