A Will to Live and Expert Care at Wockhardt Hospitals Leads 71-Year-Old Patient to Recovery from Aortic Stenosis

Mrs. Sugandha Jadhav, a 71-year-old patient, refused to give in to age and disease when she was diagnosed with Type 2 respiratory failure, bronchial asthma, old TB, and severe aortic stenosis (AS) and left ventricular dysfunction (EF-15%). Although surgical replacement or transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) were recommended, Mrs. Jadhav chose to undergo open heart surgery despite the high risks. With the expertise of Dr. Gulshan Rohra and the team of doctors at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, Mrs. Jadhav successfully underwent surgery and received pulmonary and physical rehabilitation.

Dr. Rohra said, “Mrs. Jadhav’s case was challenging due to her weight, age, chronic obstructive lung disease, severe restrictive lung disease, and severe LV dysfunction. The calculated risk to life was 20%, and the risk for prolonged ventilation was 67%. However, with careful planning, we successfully replaced the diseased valve with a new one, and Mrs. Jadhav was off the ventilator within 48 hours. With pulmonary and physical rehabilitation, she made a full recovery.”

According to Mrs. Jadhav, “I am grateful to the doctors at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, for the excellent care and love shown during my treatment. My faith in them and my will to live longer for my children helped me overcome my fears, and today I am leading a healthy and happy life with them.”
